5 TIPS FOR CHOOSING
A BEAUTIFUL COLOR PALETTE

You’re wanting a beautiful color palette, right? And you want one that sets you apart from your competitors, makes them jealous with envy, and causes your ideal clients to drool over your aesthetics and say, ‘I want one like that!’

Okay, I may be exaggerating a bit, but if you’re like me, the look and feel of your brand is important to you. And of course, it is important as it helps define your brand personality so that you connect with those who are your perfect potential clients.

Keep in mind that color palettes usually tend to change with time. So you may want to check after a while to see whether it still aligns with your brand personality, mission and strategy.

Here are 5 Tips for choosing the color palette that is right for your business…

1 – Define The Emotion You Want to Evoke

The first step in choosing a color palette is defining the emotion you want to evoe in your audience.

How do you want them to feel when they encounter your brand? Different colors evoke different emotions in people so it is important to choose colors that align with how you want your audience to perceive you and your brand.

Here are some examples of emotions that colors can evoke…

Black – Power, sophistication, elegance

Blue – trust, reliability, professionalism

Purple – creativity, luxury, wealth

Green – growth, health, tranquility

Red – Passion, excitement, strength

White – purity, innocence, simplicity

There are several more examples of colors to choose from. You can learn more in this great article by Helpscout about color psychology.

2 – Consider Your Target Audience

What colors resonate with your potential clients?

Additionally, you will want to consider your target audience when choosing a color palette for your brand. What colors resonate with them and effectively communicate your brand’s values and personality?

What is the age bracket of your audience? Are they young teenagers who respond to bright, vibrant colors, or are they semi-retired couples who are drawn to peaceful colors like blue and green? It may pay to ask for feedback on your new color choices.

You can always change and make adjustments. Remember, your color palette doesn’t have to be set in stone, especially when you are just starting out. So have fun with it and explore!

3 – Look For Inspiration

One of the fun parts of choosing a color palette is looking for inspiration. There are several places you can go to find stunning ideas for your brand. One of the most popular places is Pinterest where you can find just about any combination and style you may be looking for. Other online platforms like Dribble and Behance allow you to browse color palettes and find inspiration from a variety of sources.

One thing I love to do is go outside and muse over the colors of nature that God has provided. You won’t be able to help but appreciate the vastness and beauty of His creation. Another place to find inspiration is in art, paintings, illustrations that resonate with you.

There are also online tools like Adobe Color, Palette Generator, and Coolers that you can use to generate your perfect color palette. Why not try them out.

4 – Choose A Limited Palette

Try keeping your brand colors to a minimum.

In saying that, there are exceptions to this rule, as there are brands that suit having an array of colors, such as children’s toys for example. But for the more sophisticated brands, less is more, as they say!

Try choosing a limited color palette as it will give you a more cohesive and consistent visual identity for your brand. This also helps to make your brand more recognizable and memorable for your target audience.

Choose one or two primary colors and add an accent color to give your brand a bit of a  pop! Once you’ve chosen your brand colors, make sure to use them across all your touchpoints, such as your social media content and materials. You can play with different tones and shades of colors to give yourself look that is unique and fresh.
